Sensei Jim McCafferty 5th dan, led our free 7th Bristol Masterclass on Tuesday 2nd October, with students enjoying a kata/application/partner-work jujitsu session. Sensei Jim put everyone through joint flexibility warmups, and then slowly built up move upon move to help students understand the hidden locks and holds within ancient kata. The understanding gained of body dynamics and using your body to defend against grabs, punches and holds was outstanding, with great humour. Jim sensei worked on wrist and head locks, as well as ground-work…. most of out joints were fully abused! The cross-over between the original Okinawan kata moves and the more Japanese Shotokan moves was very interesting.
Jim sensei is a World and European Masters medalist, and three-times National Champion. He has just returned from a European Goju-ryu Championship, where he won a silver medal! Jim also coaches Bath University to success at the British Universities Championships (BUCS).
Jim, a Shorin-ryu expert, has over 20 years of fighting and coaching experience, and represents the worldwide association Jindokai, led by Professor Stephen Chan OBE 9th Dan. We were very lucky to host him, and thank everyone for supporting the event.
