Students at Bristol & Portishead dojos were put through their paces in what was for some their first grading, followed by the announcement of Student of 2016, on Tuesday 6th December. The grading panel comprised the Chief Instructor Michael Harris, 3rd dan and Christian Ezissi, 3rd dan. At the end of a nervous exam for some students new to the process, the following candidates were successful. 10th kyu (white) Jack Driver, Jack Powell, Frankie Coltman and Susan Kedward. 9th Mon (white/orange) Jacob Bartley. 7th Kyu (yellow) Emma Graves. 5th Kyu (blue) Phil McHenry. Student of the Year was Andy Ballantine for his National medal at an England Championships, nearly passing black belt in November at Windsor under Kawasoe sensei (kata only retake), and for his commitment to the club. Andy was awarded a trophy & certificate to keep, and is custodian of the club shield for a year. Runner-up was Jacob Bartley for his medal performance at the Wales & West Friendly competition in June, and high attendance record. He was awarded a special certificate. Well done everyone!
