After a thorough vetting process Bristol Karate Centre have been accepted as provisional members of the World Karate Federation (WKF), through the English Karate Federation (EKF)! WKF are the largest international governing body of sport karate with 191 member countries. It is the only karate organisation recognised by the International Olympic Committee and has more than ten million members. The styles recognised are Gōjū-ryū, Shitō-ryū, Shotokan (our style) and Wadō-ryū.
This makes absolute sense for us to gain access to world class coaching, refereeing and competition opportunities. They also bring Sport England funding recognition, and share Team GB facilities with TaeKwonDo.
Locally, we have Ali Nyoni 5th dan as a WKF elite competitor and coach (with our upcoming masterclass), as well as Ivor Thomas, 6th dan, a European qualified referee.
Moreover, the South West squad training is at Bath, and regional competitions are held at Weston-s-Mare and Gloucester, and National competition at Leicester.
This is an exciting affiliation to a prestigious governing body, who provide access to regional, national & international events, insurance and DBS facilities.
Our affiliation to the Japan Karate Association for courses, gradings and technical direction remains unchanged.
